This program (which also is part of the CICA University and is required for the J-4 Apprentice Program) will give the irrigation technician with apprentice level skills the opportunity to reinforce irrigation principles with hands-on and classroom exercises throughout the week.
Monday: Irrigation hydraulics. Presentation of hydraulic principles and how irrigation equipment works hydraulically. Hydraulic troubleshooting skills and calculation of losses and pipe sizing.
Tuesday: Irrigation electricity. Presentation of electrical principles and how irrigation equipment works electrically. Electrical troubleshooting skills and wire sizing.
Wednesday: Advanced hydraulic and electrical applications. Sessions and exercises on pumps, flow sensors, two-wire/decoders, communication, etc.
Thursday: Irrigation design. Put everything together and create simple irrigation designs on paper with group and individual exercises.
Friday: Plant – soil – water relationships leading to system evaluation and scheduling principles and practice.
